What is the charge cycle counter and why does it matter?

Every lithium-ion battery has a built-in BMS (Battery Management System). The BMS continuously monitors temperature, voltage and charge cycle count. Based on this data it calculates the estimated battery health visible in phone settings.

A charge cycle is a full 0% to 100% cycle. In practice: charging from 50% to 100% is half a cycle. After 500 cycles battery capacity drops to around 80% of nominal value. After 800–1,000 cycles – to 60–70%.

The problem appears when we replace a battery without resetting the counter: a new, full-capacity battery is treated by the system as if it already has 800 cycles behind it. The phone may:

• Show an underestimated battery health indicator (e.g. 62% instead of 100%)
• Incorrectly calibrate charge level – switching off at 20% or showing erratic readings
• Activate performance throttling even though the new battery doesn't warrant it
• In newer models (S23, S24, S25) display a warning about an ""unknown battery""

Resetting the cycle counter makes the phone recognise the new battery exactly as it would recognise one fitted by Samsung Service Center – as factory-fresh, with zero mileage.

How does battery replacement with reset work at TKOM?

2. Battery replacement – removal of the old cell using proper tools. Batteries in newer Samsung models are strongly adhered – careless removal risks puncturing and electrolyte leakage.
